You Can Make a Difference in Our $200,000 Challenge!
St. Peter Claver Catholic School has been serving children and families for nearly 70 years. The parish was the first Black Catholic church in Minnesota. The importance of the school and church as a landmark of the civil rights movement in St. Paul’s Rondo neighborhood began in the 1950s and continues to this day.
Our school is a founding member of Ascension Catholic Academy, a partnership of three Catholic schools that educate children of color in the most challenged urban areas of the Twin Cities. You can be one of our growing number of supporters ensuring that St. Peter Claver scholars receive a rigorous education rooted in the values that are important to strong communities.
“One of the things I get very excited about is the fact that teachers at St. Peter Claver know our children and know our history. They help them feel the pride of being black in America. It teaches them the way to live in the world.”
— Dr. Josie Johnson, Civil Rights Activist, St. Peter Claver parishioner and Ascension Catholic Academy Board member
MISSION AND VISION
You know well the importance of education, especially literacy. Young scholars need to learn to read so they can read to learn in higher grades.
We are implementing a leading literacy program that focuses on phonics, similar to how you learned to read.
We use data to ensure that we are meeting each scholar’s need for academic, social-emotional and spiritual learning.
Our scholars take ownership of their learning and come to know their purpose in the greater world.
You are supporting education of the whole child. Each scholar is a beloved child of God, and you help them come to understand that. Weekly mass and daily prayer instill faith and values that build strong scholars and communities. At St. Peter Claver, teaching discipline, responsibility and respect of self and others is just as important as teaching reading, math and science.
Your gift helps scholars explore culture and heritage. We celebrate diversity and encourage its expression.
• Artifacts from the University of St. Thomas’ collection of works by the Asmat people of southwestern Papua, Indonesia, are displayed at our school. St. Thomas students teach our scholars social studies and science using the Asmat art.
• Our extracurricular Step Team is rooted in the African tradition of foot dancing.
We educate all whether or not they can pay tuition. You can help us realize our goal of filling the building to its capacity of 140. You show all scholars that they matter.
